Meet Stuart
Stuart is a piano technician based in Moscow, Idaho. While in college at UI, Stuart met university technician Jon Anderson with whom he learned the craft for a couple years. Upon graduating with his master’s, Stuart started business in 2021. As far south as Joseph, OR and north to Coeur d'Alene/Spokane, he travels all over the region servicing 500+ pianos in homes, churches, and schools.
Clients include the University of Idaho, Washington State University, NSA Conservatory of Music, and Lewis-Clark State College. Additionally, Stuart assists Clint Hughes at Grand American Piano, where he tunes, regulates, and voices both freshly restored pianos as well as others for sale.
In fall of 2024, Stuart travelled to Salt Lake City, where he challenged and passed both the tuning & technical certification exams to become a Registered Piano Technician (RPT) in the Piano Technician’s Guild. As a member of the PTG and the Inland Northwest Chapter president, he is actively involved in local meetings and attends regional as well as national conventions.
Stuart has a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance (2018) and Master of Music in Collaborative Piano (2021), both from the University of Idaho’s Lionel Hampton School of Music. Previous instructors include Eneida Larti, Yoon-Wha Roh, Roger McVey, Rajung Yang, and Sandra Mauchley.
With a rich experience in collaborating, Stuart has accompanied fellow musicians, churches, choirs, and theaters, both at the UI and around the local community. Through the LHSOM, Stuart has performed in convocations, premiered student compositions, played for masterclasses, studied organ, and accompanied choirs along with individual singers and instrumentalists. In 2018 he played keyboards for the Bigfork Summer Playhouse and in 2019 music directed for a show with the UI Theatre Arts Department.
In addition to his interests in music and piano tech, Stuart spends his free time exploring philosophy, psychology, and spirituality; collecting books, watching the stars, and playing with his cats.
